ROGER ARMITAGE, ARTIST

I am a visual artist and printmaker with a background in financial services and corporate arts consulting. Based in Melbourne, I am currently enrolled in the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts at RMIT, where I have fallen in love with the discipline of printmaking in its many forms.

My Art education began at an early age, attending my first life class around age 17.  Since then, my love affair with art practice has continued alongside my professional career in financial services.

Before returning to formal art studies in 2022, I spent more than 35 years in financial services, most recently as a senior financial adviser with a leading Melbourne accounting and investment practice. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Business (incomplete), a Diploma of Financial Planning, and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Finance and Investment.

Since retiring from financial services, I have completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at RMIT and will complete the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts this year. I intend to continue my studies with a Bachelor of Visual Arts at RMIT, majoring in Printmaking.

As an early career artist, I value the role that community-based arts organisations play in supporting artists at every stage of their practice. They provide opportunities, foster connections, and create a genuine sense of belonging. I am grateful to serve on the Committee of the Print Council of Australia and to contribute to an organisation that has championed Australian printmaking for more than 60 years, through both my passion for printmaking and the practical knowledge gained over my 35-year career in financial services.
